Our policy on spammers spamming newsgroups through GroupBrowser.com
Like you, the creators of GroupBrowser are big fans of newsgroups
and Usenet in general. Therefore, we know how bad spamming has become on
public newsgroups.
With this in mind, GroupBrowser.com has a no tolerance policy in regards to
people using this site to spam newsgroups. If someone is found to be spamming
newsgroups through this site, they will be immediately banned along with their
IP address. There will be no special cases or interventions.
If you are caught spamming through this site, you will no longer be allowed
to use this site.
Why are some categories on
GroupBrowser read-only?
Some newsgroup categories in GroupBrowser are set as read-only. This means
that you can not post to these newsgroups through GroupBrowser.com. We do this
as certain organizations or companies require you to register for an account
and log in to their newsgroups before you can post to them. We make it a point
to honor and adhere to their policies. For those categories that we have set
as read-only, we will specify how you can post to these newsgroups.
How do I use attachments with GroupBrowser?
GroupBrowser.com has deliberately decided not to import or support attachments
to newsgroups. This is done in order to protect our users from potential
malware that are common on newsgroups.
How does GroupBrowser protect newsgroup email addresses from Spambots?
Unfortunately, many news readers tend to place your email address in the message
when quoting or replying to a message. Spambots can then use retrieve your
email addresses from your messages and add it to their lists.
Since GroupBrowser mirrors many newsgroups, any email addresses that are contained
in messages will also be mirrored here. In order to stop spambots from retrieving
your email address from this site we automatically substitue the @-BLCKSPM-
symbol for another phrase to protect your email address. This will be randomized
in the future.
How to post to newsgroups with GroupBrowser
Messages in newsgroups are listed in a threaded manner. What this
means is that when someone posts a new message to a newsgroup, other members
have the ability to post a reply to that original message, or reply to submessages.
These replies are threaded like a tree.
In order to accomodate a similar experience here at GroupBrowser in order
to reply to a message you must specify the particular message to reply to by
clicking on the quote button in the particular post. Your message will then
be added as a reply to that particular post.
This behaviour will then be used when sending the message to the newsgroup
itself so conform to standard newsgroup behaviour.
Suggesting a new newsgroup or category
Groupbrowser is always happy to add a new newgroup or category to our site.
If you have a suggestion for an active newsgroup that feel free to contact
us with that information.
